Day 2 in Dushanbe: the waiting game

The good news: I slept really well, am on a workable sleep schedule...I think. I came to work with Michelle this morning at QSI, Quality Schools International. It's a really nice, warm, open school that has about 65 students, mostly younger ones. I wrote to Chris earlier, I choked up when I went in the kindergarten class. Good thing the 2nd graders are next door in the new building. Being around little blond kids makes me miss mine! The kids here are a big mix, Americans, Europeans, Asians and Tajiks. The class Michelle teaches has kids from 11-15 years old. I just sat in on a really cool literature circle where they discussed Code Talkers, a book about Navajo Marines in WWII. Sadly, I forgot to bring the camera, so I can't show you their class newspaper. It's very impressive (especially for that age). They have a small but high-quality library and a bank of top notch computers (13 right here). The kids here have the capacity to get a great education, and the teachers seem really happy and dedicated to the kids. A good atmosphere, you can just feel it.
One thing I'm loving is the use of drivers to get around. It is totally feeding my laziness. I don't have to hunt down offices and other places on my own. He's coming in about an hour and taking me around the city for some basic touring.
NEWS: flight will be today at 4:00. Got to be at the airport by 2:30. The pace is picking up!

  1. Ms. Youngblood,

The whole American Studies III class, and especially Carson, send our greetings from Washington! Your trip looks spectacular thus far. Mr. Stinson told us about the "tunnel terror" and the "pass of death". . . GOOD LUCK!!!

We are looking forward to keeping up with your travels over spring break. Take LOTS of pictures.

Be safe and enjoy your cultural experiences!

    :-)
